Target market for the product is containers and other objects where power is lacking. The unit and battery is installed inside the container with external antennas for GPS an GPRS. The unit can then be provided with different kinds of batteries (both primary and rechargeable) depending on what the application is.

The unit is provided with a sturdy metal bracket that is welded or bolted inside the container. The bracket will hold the battery and telematics unit protected and in place.

The unit is 100% event driven and generate reports based on defined events such as time, I/O change and movement.

The unit supports firmware update over the air or locally through computer interface.

The unit communicates using the protocol Pospack 18, a protocol designed to generate very little data traffic without jeopardizing data integrity. The standard frame includes position, time, velocity, heading, I/O status, alarms and event (when report is generated).

If the TrailTrac is out of coverage it will automatically store old positions until coverage returns, and then transmit. It is also possible to configure the unit to write messages to its memory without turning GSM on to save power. One possible setting is for example to calculate position and write to memory every 5min but the unit will transmit data from memory every hour.
